Project H Roadshow

Flamingos? Balloons? The Roadshow exhibit was a very interesting experience. I had never seen an exhibit like it. Only 8 people were allowed in the van at once and once inside, one would find a variety of objects that are designed to help people in one way or another. Most of the objects are targeted for people from third world countries who need this kind of useful and resourceful design to help them live better lives. An example of this is the Hippo Roller, which is used to easily and effectively carry large amounts of water from a water source to a village. I thought this was a very clever idea and I'm glad to know there are designers in the world working to really make a difference and help people out. I learned more about project H and the Design Revolution in the lecture that Emily Pilloton gave in the Shemin auditorium. She spoke of why designers should be concerned about not only Monetary gratification, but also about helping the world and its people. It is something I can relate to because I notice the amount of stuff that is being sold everyday that does not improve our world in any way. I support project H and I hope they will be able to reach out to other just like they reached out to us here at Syracuse University.
Beautiful Losers

This film reminded me of a conversation I had with my mom where we analyzed the sad truth that if one does not nurture and cultivate one's creativity, one will probably lose it. It made me really happy to be studying art and to be surrounded by so many creative people here at Syracuse. I felt like I could relate to what many of the artists were saying in the film about how they feel towards art. Artists are free spirits and this is made very clear in the film. It was interesting to see so many different types of artists brought together by love for art and creativity. The way the movie was filmed allows the viewers to get a more personal look into the lives of these artists and the true reasons for why they do what they do. I admire these artists and I hope to continue living an artist's life and succeed at it in some way - even if that means to simply be happy and creative.
